Electronic application form (EAF) for PC users - getting started with the EAF

Print this page to use as a reference when you are offline. Please complete all of the steps below.

1. Downloading the setup files

a. Download the EAF Reader software if you do not already have the latest version installed on your PC. To do this:

  • Click on the link that says EAF Reader.
  • Save the file (called eafsetup.exe) to your Desktop or another location on your hard drive.

Note: The EAF Reader software with Microsoft Agent is distributed on CD and can be requested on 0845 600 20 40 (textphone 0845 755 6656) for Awards for All applications or 0845 4 10 20 30 (textphone 0845 039 0204) for Big Lottery Fund programmes. The EAF system uses Microsoft Agent to read aloud the questions, answers and help files to blind or visually impaired users.

b. Download the application form:

  • Click on the link to the application form
  • Save the file to your Desktop or another location on your hard drive. The name of the file depends on whether you downloaded it from the Awards for All or Big Lottery Fund website.

Big Lottery Fund form files are named BIG_[name of form].
Awards for All application form files are named A4A_[country].

When both the EAF Reader and the application form have downloaded you can begin to install them on your computer.

2. Installing the EAF Reader software and application form

a. Double click the downloaded file called eafsetup.exe to install the EAF Reader software. InstallShield wizard will take you through the process:

  • If you have a previous version of the EAF Reader already installed, InstallShield wizard will ask whether you want to Modify, Repair or Remove it. Select Repair to update the software files;
  • Click Next at each stage to accept the default settings;
  • Read and accept the licence agreement;
  • Click Finish at the end to complete the installation.

Your Start > Programs menu should now include EAF. Moving your mouse pointer over the EAF folder should show the Readme and Feedback documents.

b. Double click the downloaded file called A4A_[country] or BIG_[name of form] to install the application form. InstallShield wizard will take you through the process:

  • Click Next at each stage to accept the default settings
  • Click Finish at the end to complete the installation

Note: If you have previously installed the application form, or you have an earlier version of it installed, you may be asked whether you wish to delete the existing files. It is perfectly safe to do so - you will then need to repeat step 2b to install the newer version of the application form.

Your Start > Programs menu should now include EAF. Moving your mouse pointer over the EAF folder should now show the application form along with the Readme and Feedback documents.

3. Opening the application form

a. Click on your Start menu button, then select Programs (All Programs in Windows XP) and then EAF. The application forms you have installed will be listed along with the Readme and Feedback documents.

Note: If any of these files are missing from the list displayed, the download and installation steps have not been completed correctly. Please make sure you have completed all steps above.

b. Read the Readme file for any issues concerning this version of the software.

c. Click on the application form listed in the Start > Programs > EAF menu to open it.

The form will open at its Welcome page. Please read the contents of the Welcome page and then press the Page Down key on your keyboard to move to the first page of the form.
